Meridian High School Teacher Steven Lawrence Named Washington’s 2012 History Teacher of the Year
Steven Lawrence, who teaches U.S. History & Government, AP U.S. Government, Current Issues, Law & society and Comparative Religion at Meridian High School in Bellingham, was recently named Washington’s 2012 History Teacher of the Year. 
Lawrence, who’s been teaching at Meridian since 1994, will receive a $1,000 honorarium. Meridian will receive history books and educational materials from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and HISTORY®, the award sponsors.
Winners are selected based upon certain criteria including:
- At least three years of classroom experience in teaching American history.
- A demonstrated commitment to teaching American history (including state and local history).
- Evidence of creativity and imagination in the classroom.
- Effective use of documents, artifacts, historic sites, oral histories and other primary resources.
