April 1 was the deadline for school districts to submit a notice of intent to be a charter school authorizer. Twelve districts from across the state — in rural and urban communities, and both east and west of the Cascades — sent their intent letter.

The timeline for opening a charter school can be a little confusing. Below is an extended timeline for schools opening in 2015 and beyond.

Authorizer Applications in 2014 and Ongoing
District notice of intent to submit authorizer application: October 1, 2013
SBE posts district authorizer application: October 1, 2013
Closing date for authorizer applications to SBE: December 31, 2014
Closing date for SBE decisions on authorizer applications: April 1, 2014
Charter Applications in 2014 and Ongoing
Last date for all authorizers to issue RFPs: April 15, 2014
Closing date for charter application submissions to all authorizers: July 15, 2014
Closing date for authorizer approval or denial of charter applications: October 15, 2014
Last date by which authorizer must submit report of action to approve or deny application: October 25, 2014
