ED Advocate, League of Education Voters Newsletter, February 2015

Greetings

Chris Korsmo, CEO

This past weekend was a nailbiting disappointment for many of us. Punxsatawny Phil ultimately saw his shadow and doomed us to six more weeks of winter.

And then there was the Super Bowl. Let us not speak of it (a direct request from my staff). Instead, let's turn to the legislative session, which is in full swing.

To keep you in the loop, we have two great ways to help you stay up on what's happening in Olympia: our education bill tracker, and my Weekly Roundup Friday emails. You can also read our legislative priorites online.

We are pleased to be co-hosting Dr. Howard Fuller at the University of Washington, Tacoma, on February 10. Dr. Fuller is the author of No Struggle No Progress: A Warrior's Life from Black Power to Education Reform, which tells the story of his journey from empowering poor, black communities in North Carolina to being on the forefront of education reform in America. Read below for more information.

Thanks for all you do for kids. We couldn't do it without you.

We can and must do better for our students

A Way ForwardWe are pleased to share A Way Forward, our vision for a new definition of basic education. We believe that a child's education should be a continuum with seamless transitions from early learning through postsecondary education.

Basic education must include early learning, strategic investments in teacher compensation and professional learning, and at least two years of postsecondary education for each Washington student.
