We are looking for new Board members!
Every year, League of Education Voters recruits new board members. We’ve made it to the digital age and our application process is now online. We are currently recruiting members to join in the Fall of 2019. League of Education Voters has two boards – the LEV Foundation board and our C4 board, League of Education Voters. We are recruiting for both.
The application deadline is Thursday, September 5th.
We are seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds that represent the rich perspectives and understanding of educational needs across our state with the following skills:
- Electoral knowledge
- Fundraising experience
- Public Policy background
League of Education Voters (LEV) and League of Education Voters Foundation (LEVF) are seeking collaborative board members who are passionate about public education and will champion equitable education and student success across Washington state. New board members will build on LEV’s accomplishments in leading the charge on many landmark funding and policy efforts that are improving educational equity. Board members play a crucial role in the work – setting our policy course, determining our strategic goals and plans, and growing the strength of the organization.
The responsibilities of LEV board members are:
- Define the vision and mission of the organization.
- Determine and monitor high-level outcomes and strategies.
- Establish workplace policies including but not limited to finance and investment, human resources, and fund development.
- Select, review, and support the executive director.
- Oversee the finances of the organization and approve budgets. The board(s) have fiduciary responsibility for the organization.
- Advocate for the organization’s policy agenda, as needed.
- Assist with fund development as needed.
Each board member is elected to a three-year term and should expect to spend 3-5 hours a month on LEV business. We are recruiting for both boards at this time. Please indicate your interest in the application as to your preferred board. Both boards tend to meet back-to-back, allowing members to attend both meetings, even as non-voting participants. Officers serve on both boards. Each board member can serve up to two terms.

LEV is a statewide organization with headquarters in Seattle and offices in Spokane and Pasco. Since 2001, we have been working to improve opportunities for every public school student in the state, especially students and families who are systemically underserved and disproportionately affected by failing systems.
Our Approach and Accomplishments: With strength in policy research, analysis, and advocacy, LEV’s work includes lobbying in the Washington state capitol as well as organizing ballot initiatives and field campaigns to support the public policy engagement of students and families. Our work has included: increasing state investment in early childhood, K12 and post-secondary education; advocating for a more equitable, statewide, student-focused funding system; enhancing the rigor of the high school diploma; and supporting charter public schools.
Our Next Chapter: LEV is committed to a reimagined education system that meets the needs of every student—addressing systemic barriers to student engagement, achievement, and access to a high-quality education. As an education thought leader, innovator, and collaborator, we will expand our community-engaged advocacy by developing community-informed, targeted policy solutions to benefit students impacted by racism, poverty, disability discrimination, and other forms of oppression.
